Work Schedules
Different shifts, including nights and weekends, are available to fit your busy lifestyle. Dining Services knows how hectic your academic schedule can be and makes every effort to accommodate your needs. Managers or supervisors will assist you in molding a work schedule around your class and finals schedules.
As a student employee, you will be able to work as many as nineteen hours per week or as few as twelve hours per week.
Kinds of Jobs
Dining Services offers the opportunity to learn and perform new tasks almost every day. You might serve fresh-baked desserts one day, handle food production the next, and on the third day operate the register and answer questions. With Dining Services you will be working in a positive, team-oriented environment in whatever task you may be performing. Training, unlike a course in calculus, is an interactive experience designed to be enjoyable as well as educational.
Work Locations/Job Openings
Dining Services facilities have openings at various times throughout the year. As a UC San Diego student you can work at any UC San Diego Dining Services facility on campus. Although it may be easier to live and work at the same college, you are not limited to the restaurant in your specific college.
Current job descriptions:
Restaurant Food Service Worker
New employees will learn the basics of customer service, food preparation, and general maintenance. As you advance, you will master cashiering, setup and breakdown of service areas, and more complex food preparation.
Clerical Worker
Learn the operations of busy Dining Services offices. You start with filing, light telephone, copying, receptionist duties, data entry, and customer service. As you advance, you will learn cash handling, bookkeeping, and payroll.
Assistant II, HDS Marketing and Graphics
Positions include customer service, communications, clerical, and desktop publishing; as well as production of signs, flyers, banners, vinyl lettering, labels, web pages, brochures, and other promotional materials. Compile data, present marketing information, and handle general officework.
Openings at UC San Diego Catering
In addition to openings at Dining Services facilities, employment opportunities are also available with UC San Diego Catering. UC San Diego Catering provides full-service catering for a variety of events, on- and off-campus, offering the chance to gain invaluable real-world work experience. Training is provided. Excellent driving record and current driver's license are required. You earn extra shift pay for evening events. Catering Food Service Worker
When you join UC San Diego Catering you will learn about every part of the campus, delivering and serving customers and events at locations ranging from the Price Center to Birch Aquarium at Scripps. Opportunities include learning gourmet food preparation, display and presentation, and formal dining
room service.
Student Employees Must Be Registered
Dining Services is committed to employing UC San Diego students- that's why 80% of Dining Services jobs are reserved for currently enrolled students. To be considered for a position, you must be registered and have paid your fees.
How To Apply
You may interview for a position at the unit of your choice during the days and times specified below. If the contact is unavailable, please complete a class schedule and information sheet and leave them with office personnel at the unit. A unit employee will contact you later to schedule an interview time. As with any job, there is always paperwork so be sure to bring at least two forms of identification such as your driver's license, student ID card, or social security card.
